Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center Receives Grant to Enhance Mental Health Support for Residents

Mar 4, 2025
The Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center (CCJDC) has been awarded a $12,710.03 grant from the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) through the FY25 Behavioral Health Grant (Category 4).

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center (CCJDC) has been awarded a $12,710.03 grant from the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) through the FY25 Behavioral Health Grant (Category 4). This funding will be used to create a dedicated trauma-informed mental health space, featuring a calming mural and noise-canceling installations to foster a supportive environment for detained youth.

Recognizing the critical need for mental health services within juvenile detention facilities, CCJDC is committed to enhancing both crisis intervention and ongoing therapy for residents. The presence of mental health professionals in the facility ensures immediate intervention during crises, reducing risks and providing necessary de-escalation support. Additionally, access to consistent therapy helps youth develop coping strategies, address trauma, and work toward successful rehabilitation.

Our goal is to create a safer, more supportive space where residents feel encouraged to engage in mental health services. This grant allows us to take meaningful steps in ensuring that youth in our care receive the resources they need to heal and grow.

By integrating mental health professionals and improving the physical environment, CCJDC aims to enhance the well-being of residents while supporting staff in managing mental health-related challenges. These efforts not only benefit individuals in detention but also contribute to reducing recidivism and fostering long-term positive outcomes.
